Probably the most heard health benefit of wine is improved heart functioning. A healthy heart is a key to longevity and a part of a healthy lifestyle. Around 17.7 million people die every year due to cardiovascular diseases, this accounts for 31% of deaths around the world and is an even bigger issue in the United States.

For folks that keep wine in their diet, it is important to note that polyphenols in wine help maintain heart health. Polyphenols protect blood vessel lining. Ideally, an adult can drink 4 to 8 oz of wine every day as part of an active lifestyle and a healthy diet to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Typically, alcohol consumption is strongly correlated with weight gain. A glass of wine will run anywhere from 100-180 calories. However, when compared to beer or mixed drinks wine is a fantastic alternative. The natural sugar in wine is much healthier than added sugar found in mixed drinks or cocktail. Wine is gluten-free and the gluten in beer is something we’ve all heard about. Additionally, a team of researchers at Washington State University discovered that regular intake of fruits with the antioxidant resveratrol can help prevent weight gain. This antioxidant is found in berries, grapes, and red wine.

When drunk in moderation, wine can strengthen bones due to increased estrogen levels caused by wine. This is especially important for women and women as they age.
